With the Chennai airport shut for operations till Sunday, December 6, the Rajali Naval air station near Arakonam, about 70 km west of the Tamil Nadu capital, will be converted into an airport.

National carrier Air India test-landed an Airbus 320 that flew in from Hyderabad at the Navy base on Wednesday evening.

No flight has taken off or landed at the Chennai airport since Tuesday evening, with water on the runway as the city remains flooded due to heavy rain. About 700 people are still stranded at the Chennai airport.

The weather department has forecast more rain in the next four days and said that the next 48 hours are critical.

btw Govt has declared public holiday for Dec 3rd and 4th and also recommended pvt organisation to shut down on these days

Yeah, its better to get a salary cut instead of facing insecurity in flood.

People who want to travel from Chennai to down south kindly use this route highlighted in green. Minimal water-logging. Buses are already using this route to reach destinations like Trichy/Pondy/Cuddalore/Madurai.

AVOID - Perugalathur - Vandalur - Chengalpattu - Madhuranthagam, atleast for today.

In Flooded Chennai, a Woman Sits With Mother's Body For Over 16 Hours

"Jiska dar tha wahi hua", today morning i was discussing this with my family.

In rain-hit Chennai, as water surges in residential areas, a woman has been sitting with the body of her mother for nearly 20 hours.

Her friend appeals for help through NDTV.

"Her mother, a dialysis patient, passed away yesterday. She is all by herself with the dead body in the dark," said the friend, urging the authorities to send a hospital van to the house in the city's Ashok Nagar area.

"If any morgue van could reach in a decent hour, we can give her a decent burial. Otherwise it's going to be an epidemic breakout because the body is in a very bad situation. It is a big risk to others. She has no help, she is helpless. Please help her," she pleaded.

The woman's ground floor apartment is just opposite a high school. She tried to take the body to a morgue last night but had to return as the roads were flooded and blocked.
