Life for people in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai continues to be difficult though the rains have stopped in the capital.
Many areas in Chennai still remain under water and supplies of essentials were difficult, said residents.
“Water logging continues to be there. The only mercy was that there were no rains,” said Viswanath, a resident.

The trough that has been staying around Sri Lanka has now become a Low Pressure in Bay of Bengal. As things stand though the impact for Chennai could be limited with may be isolated moderate spells at times. Mostly another fairly clear day expected today for Chennai
In the meanwhile yesterday saw fairly widespread rains around the Delta region. Karaikal recorded 51 mm till 11:30 in the night while neighboring Nagappattinam recorded 49 mm till evening. Similarly Cuddalore also recorded 47 mm till 11:30 PM.
Low Pressure in Bay of Bengal Update: With the trough of low now becoming a low pressure in Bay we could expect rains to continue over Coastal Tamil Nadu for the next couple of days or so. It appears as things stand the low pressure is expected to provide widespread rains over Coastal TN. Going by model estimates the region between Pondicherry and Rameswaram is possibly going to see widespread rains with one or two places getting heavy rains. As the low pressure possibly moves in a W/SW direction we could see the impact areas possibly change and will need to be monitored closely if Chennai could continue to get its relief from the rains so that the city can come back to normal.

At least 18 people died in one of the hospitals in the flood-hit Chennai on Friday, reports said.
MIOT Hospital in the city was treating some 575 patients. After the tragic incident, 57 patients have been shifted to different hospitals.
Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan said the reason behind death is not known yet and an investigation has been ordered into the incident.
Though water level is slowly receding in many parts of Chennai and there is no rainfall in the city and adjoining areas since morning, the flood situation continues to remain grim in the city and several parts of Tamil Nadu. The city still remains virtually cut off from the rest of the country with air, rail and road transport services.

A green body on Friday said that the floods in Chennai are an impact of climate change and the "unprecedented deluge" that the city has witnessed is a reminder of increasing frequency of such freak weather events across the Indian subcontinent. The Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) said that Chennai could have fared better if it had protected and preserved its natural water bodies and drainage channels.

"We have repeatedly drawn attention to the fact that our urban sprawls such as Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Srinagar and others have not paid adequate attention to the natural water bodies that exist in them," said?CSE director general Sunita Narain.

Chennai may have been spared from heavy showers on Thursday but the city is far from being out of danger. Large parts of the city continue to be inundated with thousands stuck in their homes without any food, water or electricity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Chennai on Thursday to take stock of the damage and offered Rs 1000 crore as assistance.
Commercial carriers Air India, Indigo, Spicejet and Truejet will be operating 6 flights from Arakkonam naval base airport. Railways have arranged shuttle service from Chennai beach to Arakkonam airbase to facilitate the flying out.
