Comedy Central has been stopped for ten days for airing obscene and vulgar words besides being derogatory to women.
Stating multiple clauses that the channel has breached, the I&B Ministry asked Comedy Central to go off air from May 25 till June 4 for telecasting 'offensive' words in Stand Up Club and Popcornprogrammes on May 26 and July 4 last year.
The order issued by Delhi High court said that the programme showed a man performing an act of stand-up comedy and mouthing vulgar words accompanied by obscene and suggestive gestures and gyration. During his performance, the man was shown uttering dialogues denigrating women, indecently and crudely referred to sex organs of men-and women and the sing-song rendition by the man sought to pornographically describe .the male lust, depicting women as a commodity of sex. The portrayal appeared to deprave, corrupt and injure the public morality or morals.
The second case was an episode from the reality show titled “Popcorn” wherein members of the Comedy Central crew are seen playing pranks on the general populace. In this case, one of the Comedy Central crew members was seen mimicking the act of intercourse with a set of dummy legs, in different locations.
In response to the show cause notice issued by the ministry, Comedy Central said that as a 24-hour channel dedicated to English language comedy content, they cater to a niche viewership accustomed to and interested in English programmes.
They further clarified that Popcorn is a reality show which contained different pranks. And in this show after playing a prank on any individual, the 'victim' of the prank is informed about it and also informed about the fact that the prank was being recorded.

Looks like such banning is going to increase in coming days as none of the channel and content are left from double meaning , and objectionable content.

New Update:
Comedy Central gets relief from Delhi high court against ten-day ban

NEW DELHI: Three days after the channel went off air after the court upheld a central government order, Comedy Central today got major relief when a division bench of the Delhi high court set aside the ten-day ban on transmission of the Viacom18-owned channel.
Viacom18 group general counsel Sujeet Jain, appeared in person before the bench headed by chief justice D. Murugesan.
Comedy Central had switched off its signals for 10 days starting 00:01 hours on 25 May following an order passed by the inter-ministerial committee of the I&B ministry for airing "obscene" dialogues and "vulgar" words besides being derogatory to women.
The IMC had given a notice to the channel last year and then given it an opportunity of personal hearing with regard to the shows 'Stand Up Club' and 'Popcorn' aired on 26 May and 4 July last year.
Taking a cue from the earlier ban on Movies OK where that channel had got the order stayed on the ground that the notice was too short, the ministry issued the ban order to Comedy Central on 17 May.
Comedy Central, the I&B ministry says, telecast the comedy show "Stand Up Club" at 20:52 hours and a show called "PopCorn" on 4 July at 7:57 pm.

A single bench headed by justice V K Jain had dismissing the plea of Viacom 18 media against the government's decision, saying the penalty prohibiting telecast of the channel for 10 days cannot be termed as "excessive, harsh or unreasonable."
"Considering that the penalty could be the prohibition of telecast up to 30 days for the first violation and up to 90 days in case of the second violation, the penalty imposed on the channel cannot be said to be excessive or unreasonable."
The ministry had simultaneously banned the transmission of another channel, Manoranjan TV, for seven days for telecasting a film with an adult certificate "Ek Chatur Naar" in the afternoon on 11 February last year. Manoranjan TV will not be transmitted till 00.01 hrs on 1 June.
