Many HD chs like History , Movies Now, Travel XP, MTunes r available only in HD and DTH/Cable ops downscale them in SD and telecast them by tweaking aspect ratio. They can show in 16:9 or in letter box format, its upto operators, channels have no role in it.

Regarding SD Chs, they can show programmes in 16:9 or letter box format if content originally is shot in HD but yes it will remain SD . Regarding programmes shot in SD, their aspect ratio can also be changed by broadcaster by adding left and right bars on left and right side but no one does that as SD content is already in proper AS for normal tv

This black bar is from operator end.

This is when they update it as original 16:9

At least after following Entertainment Forum, I able to understand a difference from broadcaster end & operator end, I just brining a point that which operator is doing like this.

The AR tweak is to suit the CRT but zcafe recently switched to full screen because it has no AR and knows that most of eng viewers got Widescreen tv.
