Following Arvind Kejriwal’s indication that talks with Navjot Singh Sidhu over joining the Aam Aadmi Party might have failed, the Congress made full use of that opportunity by saying that its doors were still open for the former cricketer and MP. Congress said anyone who believes in the ideology of the party and has faith in the leadership can join. But Asha Kumari, who is Congress’ general secretary in-charge said that the member will have to leave the BJP first, indicating that Sidhu who has left the Rajya Sabha has yet not quit the party.

A senior Congress leader told The Indian Express that Sidhu belonged to a Congress family. “So, Congress is a natural destination for him. We had been saying that our doors are open. But there has no been no contact so far,” the leader said. Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh in a media conference at Halqe Vich Captain programme of Phagwara constituency said that AAP’s treatment of Sidhu shows their arrogance. He said that AAP initially went overboard with their welcome of Sidhu and then backtracked. Singh said that he knows Sidhu since childhood and he is always welcome to join Congress.
