DD awaits Prasar Bharati’s nod for a HD channel

In the era of high definition, Doordarshan, proved its mettle in telecasting in HD mode as early as 2010.

The pubcaster had then shown the Commonwealth Games held in the national capital in HD feed, even before the other private channels entered the segment.

Doordarshan is ready to launch a national channel in a parallel HD mode, as per the sources within the pubcaster, but is awaiting a nod from the government as well as the Prasar Bharati board.

Currently, DD News is telecasting the Commonwealth Games from Glasgow in high definition on its terrestrial transmitters while covering more of the games/events where Indians are participating.

Why govt is too slow. Atleast they need to do fast clearance for good things, also no one will oppose this.

I am sure they will get permission by next month and then we can expect a HD channels from DD permanently.

I think in metro citiesTerrestrial hd transmission is already start and test run of hd on c band from gsat 10 but dd need regular hd feed 24*7

Then everyone have to dumb their old FTA receiver and have to go MPEG 4 HD supportable STBs and DD have to start MPEG 4 based service soon.
