DD India, which relays news and other content to Indians who live overseas, will most likely not be on Hot Bird 13B as its satellite licence is nearing expiry of its term. Prasar Bharati is in talks for a renewal of the distribution deal with Deutsche Welle, but the German pubcaster does not have bandwidth. The carriage of DD India (earlier DD World) on Hot Bird13B Satellite having footprints in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East could thus end. DDG (commercial) CK Jain told TelevisionPost.com that DD India’s agreement with Deutsche Welle expires on 30 September. Prasar Bharati is working on various options. “There are plans to renew it but Deutsche Welle is not having the bandwidth to carry the channel. If it doesn’t work out, we won’t be on Hot Bird 13B. So we are working on various options. Either we will try to do it ourselves or will talk to other distributors,” he said.
