I didn't face any problem with cable in my 20+ years of experiance. For me cable is always economical & trustworthy. Now as far as Star channels' a-la-carte is concerned, I am geting it in HD so no worry for me.

offtopic:

My cable operator/MSO is transmitting many FTA channels from DD Free Dish, I can see the logo on the channels. Isnt it illegal to transmit channels from DTH operators ???
If yes can you share me the details whom to contact and to raise this issue.

No of channels carried by Digital Cable:

In one single frequency a maximum of 15 digital channels can be added and that to with the minimum system setup at the headend
So imagine if 30 frequency was made in to digital, and in each 15 channels be added: 30x15=450 channels cane be added in Digital cable STB.
And remember cable tv has a vast frequency range from 48MHz to 860 MHz in which broadband too can be added.
All this is MPEG4 channels pls note, and in one frequency 4-5 HD channels can be accommodated with Dolby Digital/Dolby Digital Sound.

No of channels carried by DTH:
How many channels can be carried in one single frequency (Transponder)??? SD and HD (MPEG4)
if more transponders have to be taken ??? the Company has to pay rent for it ??? So in total how much transponders can be taken ???

That means digital cable has no bandwidth bottleneck that DTH suffers & that's why it can carry more no. of channels.

Digital Cable TV is way better than DTHs:
1) economical
2) no affect if climate changes
3) signal quality - always remain 100% bcoz of the cables
4) package prices n ala carte prices n add on or mini packs r way better than any of the dths'.
prices r also lower.
5) recharge - if u don't pay to cable walla for a few days then also u ll see the channels but this facility is not there in dth.
6) HD -prices r very very cheap in MSOs.
7) Multiroom - the prices of multiroom r very very low as compare to DTHs.
8) channels addition - channels addition is very fast as compare to any DTHs.

Digital Cable TV is way better than DTHs:
1) economical
Definitely not now after Broadcasters decided to go to RIO basis.

2) no affect if climate changes

Signals will be affect if Broadcaster centre having power outage or cable connection gets broken due to storm. Such things occurs in atleast at small cities.

3) signal quality - always remain 100% bcoz of the cables
Can't agree there must be some distortion due to outside interference whether its Weather related, Noise related or Electricity related. DTH users face SUN Outage during Summer days.

4) package prices n ala carte prices n add on or mini packs r way better than any of the dths. prices r also lower.
Agree with mini packs, but dishtv give some ala carte at Rs. 5. Prices are not lower after STAR moved to RIO.

5) recharge - if u don't pay to cable walla for a few days then also u ll see the channels but this facility is not there in dth.
I think 80 % users pays for his entertainment on time.

6) HD -prices r very very cheap in MSOs.
Agree but HD prices varies according to Operators.

7) Multiroom - the prices of multiroom r very very low as compare to DTHs.

How much ? All DTH charges 200 for secondary connection.

8) channels addition - channels addition is very fast as compare to any DTHs.
Its varies according to operators and their wish. STAR SPORTS HD 3, 4 didn't launched in MSO but in DTHs.

MSO can grow but middle man LCO spoils the game and keep playing dirty until and unless we don't moved to DTH. With MSO you can't live hassle free live, LCO will always let you become frustrated.

Another drawback is easy switching I can't switch to other MSO because LCO carries only one dedicated MSOs signals. So whether the following MSO is good or not I have to accept him which is not in the case of DTH.
