The direct-to-home industry is happy the way the number of digital TV at homes are growing but rues about the multiple taxes that is hitting the profitability severely.

“The industry has invested about $4.5 billion overall so far but none of us made profits. We are EBDTA positive but not made profits yet,” Salil Kapoor, Chief Operating Officer of Dish TV India, has said.

While expressing the satisfaction about the way the digitisation process is growing in the country, he said the industry was subjected to multiple taxes such as customs, service, entertainment taxes and licence fee.

The new brand, Zing, would offer different packages at different price tags. Zing is a common brand that the company is launching in different States.

“We are going to have 38 Telugu channels and the starting package would start with 16 Telugu and over 100 other channels at Rs. 99,” he said.
