THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All municipalities and adjoining panchayats across Kerala will enter the digital cable network with complete transition to digital cable by December 31 this year, as part of the phase-III digitization by TRAI. Four metro cities were covered in phase-1, and 38 cities were covered in phase-II.
"Such digitization of cable television can provide value added services integrated with broadband for consumers. It is also mandatory for cable operators to have a designated complaint handling and redressal system," said Sibichen K Mathew, Trai regional head for Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa. Roughly about 394 places across Kerala including towns and panchayats will be covered in phase III.
For digital cable TV, consumers will have to approach the local cable operators who will get in touch with multiple system operators (MSOs) and ensure installation of the set top box at the consumer's place for digital transition with integrated digital cable network and broadband connectivity, Mathew said.
Finally it will be curtains for analog signals and STB'S to dominate. Hope they adhere to schedule and the left and right parties don't call for state wide harthal for this.
I am 100% sure that digitization will be completed by this year end. Hope the Govt stays firm on this as this is one of the pet projects of "Digital India".
I just wish that the Govt stays firm and TRAI doesn't give any more time. Its been changed 3 times, and they wont change it again. The Govt stand on Digital India is very strong. If at all more time is given then its upto MSO to digitize voluntarily as soon as possible so that consumers get what they want.
