Buoyed by a decline in expenses and good subscriber growth, leading direct-to-home (DTH) operator Dish TV has narrowed its fiscal first quarter standalone net loss to Rs 16 crore (Rs 160 million) compared to the preceding quarter. Dish TV’s financial performance improved as its subscriber addition jumped, while average revenue per user (ARPU) stayed at Rs 170, similar to the trailing quarter. ARPU rose 3 per cent from the year-ago period when it stood at Rs 165. Churn rose from 0.6 per cent per month in the trailing quarter to 0.7 per cent per month in the quarter under review.
Dish TV added 332,000 net subscribers during the quarter, after two straight quarters of muted subscriber growth. In the trailing quarter it had added 230,000 net subscribers and in the year-ago period 200,000. Dish TV, which now claims a net subscriber base of 11.7 million, has claimed to have strengthened incremental share leadership in the first quarter of the fiscal.
