Discussion DTH/MSO watermark Logo on channels

Dear All,

This is with regards to the DTH/Digital cable operators putting their watermark logo on the channels.

I had some queries about the same, its because of privacy and security that these DTH/MSO put their logo on channels.

First of all, I wanted to know how is this watermark logo put, does the STB put the logo, or are the logos put in the headend and then transmitted to the STB.

Also I wanted to can the logo sizes be changed or can the logos be modified in anyways by the STB, or the headend???

Main intention of putting the watermark logo is to prevent piracy.

They can put watermark logo through STB or from headend also

I guess applying logo through headend is better as they can resize the logo accordingly

The Logo is applied through Headend because the position depends on the channels.

If applied through STB, cant the logo be resized/modified from headend ?? via some software update.

I am asking this as my MSO has rolled out a new STB and it has this transparent logo on all the channels, the STB which I am using doesn't have logo. The logo is transparent but its big. So hence I am asking that in coming days if MSO wants to resize or change the logo, can they do it from headend or do they have to rollout a new STB ?

They have to rollout the software to change the logo as rdtv once changed the UI and logo from big TV to rdtv through update.

From headend logo can be smaller, bigger, lighter but from STB logo will be of same size and of same opaque.

Adding logo from headend is costly and hectic because it varies for channel after channel.

I guess applying logo through headend is better as they can resize the logo accordingly

I think costly matter too, DD spend 4 crore for watermarking in 60 odd channels imagine how much TS and ADTV spending.

Another reason why space constraint benefits TS and ADTV, more channels means more watermark technology to be used
