They wanted to increase the price of SD versions of these channels in view of the high profile india pak series.They could not do this unless they dropped HD channels, because most of their HD users are on advance rental (or long term packs) and as such they could not increase the price of HD channels.

well bloody DTH operators always try to exploit money when ever there is a chance. Its quite disapointing that leading DTH operators tend to extract money once the connection has been taken as they know the customer doesnt have any other alternatives.

I am sure within a couple of days we would see another Public Notice from Airtel side. This is going to be worse now.

But bro, Airtel is refunding back the money to customer due to removal of ESS HD channels. Also Govt is leving 35% Tax and package pricing is still low as compared to international market.
ESS is always the Bad Side in any such deal.
