in movie halls, national anthem is played? i am not sure and havent seen in my state.Only news reel is shown. How many of us really stand up when national anthem is played on TV?
no. respecting anything is good only whether u r under or above the roof.

Infact the same was done with Priti Zinta when she didn't stand-up and later on cited reason as Mensuration.

The Madras High Court Bench here on Tuesday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) petition filed by an advocate seeking a ban on playing the national anthem in cinema halls since he witnessed that not many people in the theatres accord respect by standing to attention.
Justices R. Sudhakar and V.M. Velumani rejected the plea on the ground that the Union Home Ministry had made it clear on January 5 this year that the audience in cinema halls were not expected to stand up whenever the anthem was played as part of news reels and documentaries.

Playing National Anthem in theater was started around 1960 and almost all theatres of entire India used to play it but in passing years it got phased out and now Maharashtra is the only state which is following its pattern.
One of the reason cited towards it was atleast everyone get a chance to salute our Anthem when they are together to watch a movie.

Even on Flag Hosting ceremony on 15th August and 26 January, National Anthem is being played, i was taught by my parents and teacher to stand up and i still do that.
At one time i was sick so i changed the channel as i couldn't stand.
