How prepared Nokia is to address the growth in India?
Nokia has done very well in capturing the 4G market in India over the last couple of years.
The voice is moving towards VoLTE, and Nokia is number 1 in the global as well as India market. Cloudification is next wave which is coming and we have solutions for the same. In India, to enable IoT, the industry requires connectivity, analytics, and big data solutions. You require an end to end portfolio. It’s not only one piece of it which will make it happen.
Q) Do you expect VoLTE services to be rolled out by other telcos at pan-Indialevel in near future?
There has to be a co-existence of the old technology (CSFB) and the new technology (VoLTE) for voice service in India.
VoLTE is definitely a future technology, and the uptake till now has been pretty good. We expect VoLTE technology to take the voice load from the 2G technology in a 1 GHz band so that then the spectrum can be refarmed into the new technology in LTE. And again, the VoLTE handset penetration is growing at a good pace. In the next 2 years, devices will be available at a reasonable price, reaching good penetration.
