WOW Cinema, the newly launched Hindi movie channel for LC1 markets, is all set to hop on to Doordarshan’s direct-to-home (DTH) platform, Freedish, on 1 July.
Freedish had one slot vacant which was offered to WOW Cinema on a pro-rata basis.
The channel has paid Rs 3.7 crore (Rs 37 million) carriage fee to get carried on the platform.
Freedish has not been conducting e-auction since it is in the process of finalising an auctioneer to conduct e-auctions. Confirming the development, Doordarshan DDG (Comm. & Sales/ IR & IMD/ DCD) CK Jain told TelevisionPost.com, “There was one vacant slot on Freedish which was given to WOW Cinema on pro-rata basis.
They will be available on the platform from 1 July.” Softline Creations, a Naaptol Online Shopping company, also runs a Hindi movie channel Cinema TV.
The company is planning to buy new movie titles for WOW Cinema. These will be smaller movies that go unsold in the satellite market and don’t last long in the theatres
