It's not like that bro. You can set your network to WCDMA/GSM and you will get HDPA+ (3G) network on Airtel.

If you are on 2g pack, you won't get 3g even if you set it to WCDMA/GSM.While it works on !dea here in Goa

I always use Dual mode, in my idea network its automatically connected to 3G network while using 2G pack but in airtel this facility not available in my area.

This is available only in !dea , Devesh Bro. It's not available on Vodafone and Airtel here in Goa too.
