The row over the new Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani's educational qualification has led to a nationwide debate over the minimum qualification required to be a minister at the Centre. According to Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) analysis, there are eight ministers whose educational qualification is completing 12th standard or below 12th standard. Smriti Irani can now breathe easy.

National Election Watch (NEW) and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 44 ministers out of 46 Ministers (including Prime Minister) from Lok Sabha 2014 and the current Rajya Sabha. The details of Prakash Javadekar and Nirmala Seetharaman were not analysed as they are not currently members of either House.
