Motorists on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be diverted to the old highway just before the ghat stretch, every day between 12noon and 4pm, till August 10. The nearly 10km ghat section on both the Mumbai-bound and Pune-bound carriageways will be closed as a safety measure while loose rocks and boulders are removed from hills along the route, to prevent landslides.

The MSRDC has also decided to close one lane of the Expressway's Mumbai-bound stretch to traffic for three months from August 11. The lane next to the hills will be shut and traffic diverted to other lanes while remaining repair work, like fixing nets, is carried out in that time. MSRDC's managing director Anil Diggikar said, "For the time being, the one-km stretch of the expressway near Khandala tunnel has being kept closed for Mumbai-bound traffic movement as there is a likelihood of yet another landslide."
