Google Glass Features Prescription Lenses With Stylish Frames
google-glass-15.jpg

Just after a year Google came with Glass Explorer edition, Google has just announced glasses with prescription lenses for users who are forced to wear glasses anyway. The company is coming up with four different types of frames that can be perfect for Google Glass hardware as well as accommodate corrective lenses. However, glasses are limited to a stipulated group of people who have accepted the “explorer program” so far. This is indeed good news that these frames are now making glass more usable, the option is still not available to all.

Google Glass sold six-figures-worth of Glass units before the program was temporarily shut down earlier this month, Inbar said. Google has not disclosed sales of the hardware, but Statista estimated that more than 831,000 units were sold in 2014.

Its temporary hiatus gives Glass competitors like archrival Epson, which was at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month in full force showcasing its eyewear enterprise apps, the opportunity to grow their own installed base in its wake.

The popularization of smart glasses in the workplace has created inroads for other tech heavyweights to launch their own augmented reality glasses, attachments and goggles.

Google Glass successor might just drop the glass

According to industry insiders, Project Aura, the California tech corp’s revived Glass development department, has three versions of the framed-up hardware in the works – only one of which will pack a screen.

At least one of the non-display devices is said to be sports-focussed, relying on audio interaction and skull vibrations alone to talk to the wearer as they break a sweat.

What’s to differentiate such a screen-free head-strapper from the pack of bluetooth buds already on the market? That remains to be seen – though, if Google’s previous Glass offerings are anything to go by, its smarts should be sufficiently superior to make it stand out.

When will we see the glass-less Glass? Reports suggest a release next year is the target – but, given that previous Glass gear never really hit the market properly, holding in the oxygen isn’t advisable.

Despite killing it off at the beginning of this year, Google has revealed a new version of its Glass wearable computer, aimed squarely at enterprise businesses such as healthcare and manufacturing.

In filings with the American federal communications commission, the search firm has published the first pictures of the redesigned device, which now features a foldable arm holding a much larger screen

Officially, Google hasn’t acknowledged the new device’s existence, despite the fact that its enterprise-focused relaunch has been public knowledge since July. Those rumours also suggested that the new version of Glass is built to be waterproof and hard-wearing, as well as expected tech bumps like better wifi, faster processors, and improved camera and battery.

The last the company has said on the matter was that Glass was “graduating” from its experimental position in Google’s advanced research X division, and placed under the control of Tony Fadell, the man behind the iPod and Nest smart-home company.
