Making Delhi slum-free in phases will cost the government over Rs 50,000 crore, which is more than one-and-a-half-years' budget allocation for the city. The annual outlay for the national capital in the last fiscal was over Rs 35,000 crore.

Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board is learnt to have sent a detailed report in this regard to the urban development department. Once cleared by the Delhi government, the plan will be forwarded to the Union ministry of housing and poverty alleviation for its approval.
