Discussion Hathway is Expensive

After recent price increase by D2H ...i was looking for alternative ... to switch without compromising on the quality & channel count. Though i will check for digital cable we have Hathway in our society in sector 49 Gurgaon....so called up my local cable guy... unfortunately he did not had full information about HD channel content & count. So he asked me to call up the hathway helpline ....I called & left an inquiry with them...
Today i get a call from Hathway team.... what i was looking for was
1. Commercial for installation & running expense
2. Lead time for installation
3. Channel Quality & content.
4. Local Content (if any)
5. Service
I was amazed with the way rep handled my queries i was astonished to know the commercial part ... Hathway Delhi is charging
INR 2000/- (non refundable for HD STB+ INR 1800/- for HD Content + INR 200 one time activation fee + INR 500 for installation charges total of Wopping - INR 4500/- just 1 year for HD content plus i need activate SD connection which starts from approximately Rs. 100 & goes up to Rs. 350/-
So technically if i consider INR 4500/- for HD & say INR 300 for SD content (INR 3600 PA) technically i would be paying Rs. 675/- per month for their subscription
They are offering 24 HD channels....
I am shocked with the initial cost & i was under perception that Digital Cable was cheap but with this bomb my perception has changed ...
so i rather stick with my D2H ....
My first exp with digital cable was in year 2008 when i was in pune & had taken ICC digital cable ...they used to charge me Rs. 250 /- and they had amazing service... and channel content... i keep traveling to pune because of my work i recently experienced ICC cable again in my hotel room ... though the content was great .... but the STB & software was not up to mark.... but i guess its must not be as expensive as hathway for sure

This is 2015 bro. Do not expect services and prices of 2008 now. Opting a new DTH and MSO is always costly. So, its always advised to stay with existing operator only whenever someone wishes to switch operator.

Today channel count is also increased as well as Broadcasters approach if SD channels of STAR starting from Rs. 10 to 15 and HD are doubled and Premier HD are in triple amount so we can't ask why it is expensive and why not it is cheap.

But one thing for sure if you're a old cable customers you will get few benefits from LCO and if its your friend then you might enjoy few channels for free also. But such facility will not tolerable in DTH you have to pay for everything, no friendship and no family member simply pay for a service. So in that way Digital Cable is beneficiary make a setting with Cable wala and enjoy the service hassle free with some benefits too.

Now let me analyze the prices:

Hathway HD STB costs Rs 2000. This price is same all India.
-Your getting free HD channels (All HD channels) for 1 year which costs Rs 1800 (per month Rs 150) same all India

Now regarding the remaining two prices:
- Rs 200 for one time activation. Depends on LCO, if he is a good friend or a nice person he will not charge.
This is actually SD channel price (Rs 200/month)

-Rs 500 for installation charges. Again if LCO is nice and good friend he may not charge.

So if you have people who know LCO, In your society you can save Rs 700.

I must say hathway is expensive comparing to all Digital cable.Now I am taking example of Hyderabad.here all SD channels coming in 200 in every other digital cable where as in hathway some of the star channels not available they are charging 10rs per channel and sport channels 20rs per channel it is completely looting.They know LCOs are not submitting KYC forms but they are reducing 100 plus channel it is heigly effecting on customers. hathway doesn't have guts to cut all the channels if any LCO is not submitting KYC forms of customers.It is a blody game.
Now I am coming to HD channels.They are saying 1300 for all HD channels per year or 150rs per Month.They are charging same price entire India but they are not giving all HD channels in entire India.How it is justified??I am paying all the money what Mumai customer also paying the same but in Hyderabad i am getting 24 HD channels where as in Mumbai the count is 30+.Here DTHs are much better where what I am paying ,that only I am getting but these hathway cable are big looters.I keep my connection only for updates for this forum other wise I will throw this STB.

I dint know what the issue of hathway with Hyderabad and Bangalore. But in other cities they are providing good services. Like for all SD channels Rs 200/month and HD channels Rs 150/month. Total Rs 350/month.

Now in HD channels one will not get premium channels like SWPHD , HBO HD channels. SO they have to take addon in some places.

So it seems Hathway is costliest among all MSOs....But still Rs 450 PM for HD+SD channels is good.

Initial cost is high as compared to DTH because of the local infra involved in cable setup which DTH doesn't have.....So in long term DTH is costly because they have to invest in bandwidth.....
