I just got a Samsung Galaxy S5 few weeks ago, and I find the battery life of the phone is good but I have had to recharge it each night because my heavy usage. I have read some articles on saving battery life, like switching off GPS, WiFi and apps when not using, lowering screen brightness and I even waiting for a slim extended battery from mpj. I noticed that the phone was getting hot when playing game, will this damage the battery? How do you get more battery life?

One thing I can suggest you to root your s5 and remove some unwanted apps from Samsung. Using custom rom will save lot of battery life (even with heavy usage and gaming) and your roms. Most of the time samsung mobiles tend to slow down and lag with heavy usage and installing more apps. Custom roms can get you good experience and this only my personal experience
But if you don't want to root your phone and install custom ROMs then there are some good apps is store read there reviews and install them.
One thing is sure if you use for playing games and always data connection on will defiantly have to charge daily.

custom rom will nullify the warranty so don't do it until the warranty expires.

Don't root in warranty period. It's not recommended.
1.Disable all unwanted useless inbuilt apps.
2.disable location sharing.
3. Install clean master for regular junk cleaning.
