Down with fever Varun Aaron ruled out of first India A Test

India A were dealt with a blow as pace spearhead Varun Aaron is ruled out of the first Test against Australia A starting at the Chepauk on Wednesday.

Asked about his preferred first XI combination, the India A skipper intimated about Aaron's unavailability.

"I do not want to disclose the combination of the playing XI. There will be bounce and pace in the strip. Overall, if you see, Chennai wicket is always good for batting. What we need is a true wicket, where there is enough contest between bat and ball. However, Varun Aaron has viral fever and he is ruled out of the first 'Test' match."

While heat and humidity in Chennai at this time of the year, Aaron, who is a certainty in the upcoming Sri Lanka Test series, would like to get adequate rest and recover in time for the international schedule.

Cheteshwar Pujara gears up to lead India A

His day typically begins with a gym session followed by yoga. He then hits the nets and trains with his father Arvind, a former first-class cricketer. Then, a short break in the afternoon is followed by a rinse and repeat of his morning schedule. In between the two sessions, he switches off completely, enjoying a small home-made meal and quality time with friends and family.

Welcome to the life of Cheteshwar Pujara, gearing up to lead India A in two four-day matches against a strong Australia A in Chennai starting on July 22. India's Test No. 3 for a better part of the last three years, since Rahul Dravid's retirement, is now back on the same road that helped him realise his India dream, trying to rediscover lost form and the hunger to continue to score big centuries.

India tour is learning experience for young players: Matthew Wade

Chennai: Australia-A vice captain Matthew Wade feels the tour to India will be a learning experience for the young players of his team as they look to counter the spin-friendly Chepauk wicket during the first unofficial Test against India A on Tuesday.

"I find the wicket here has a little bit grass and really hard and break up that much but it will definitely spin. You got to experience in conditions like this. It is a great learning experience for some of the young players in our team. But we are ready to go," said wicket-keeper batsman Wade, who had played 12 test matches for Australia making two centuries and three 50s.

Talking to reporters after practice session on the eve of their first four-day cricket match, Wade said: "It is off season now. Looking to come to form and perform well to get in to the national side. Probably I will put my hands up in the coming season."
