News India has 832 TV channels as MIB issues six new licences

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting ( MIB) has issued licences to six new television channels, including five non-news channels.

With this, the total number of TV channels in the country has gone up to 832. There are 403 news & current affairs channels and 429 non-news channels.

Delhi-based MGK Printing Works has got a licence for a non-news channel called All Time in English, Hindi, Punjabi, and all-India regional languages. The company also holds two non-news channel licences under MGK Naaptol Tamil (earlier MGK) and Naaptol Blue (earlier Blue).

Sadhna Media Network, which already owns and operates Sadhna, Sadhna News and Ishwar channels, has procured a licence for a news channel called Positive Health for Hindi, English and Indian scheduled languages.

Delhi-based Exclusive Vision Broadcast has received non-news channel licence under the name Sharnam in Hindi, English and other scheduled Indian language.

Viacom18 Media has received licences for three channels including Bandhan, Colors Infinity HD and Colors Infinity. English general entertainment channel Colors Infinity and Colors Infinity HD will launch on 31 July. The three channels have been issued licences in English, Hindi and regional languages.

Earlier, Anil Ambani-promoted Reliance Big Broadcasting and Rajeev Chandrasekhar-promoted Asianet News Network (ANN) had surrendered five TV channel licences due to which the total number of TV channels had dropped to 826 as on 31 May.

Reliance Big Broadcasting had surrendered four non-news licences under the name Big Fame, Big Love, Big Power, and Big Prime while ANN had surrendered its news & current affairs channel licence under the name Asianet India News.

MGK Printing Works has an authorised capital of Rs 7 crore (Rs 70 million) and a paid-up capital of Rs 6.57 crore (Rs 65.7 million).

Sadhna Media Network, which already owns and operates Sadhna, Sadhna News and Ishwar channels, has procured a licence for a news channel called Positive Health for Hindi, English and Indian scheduled languages.


The Delhi-based company has an authorised capital of Rs 2.25 crore (Rs 22.5 million) and a paid-up capital of Rs 2.1 crore (Rs 21 million).


Delhi-based Exclusive Vision Broadcast has received non-news channel licence under the name Sharnam in Hindi, English and other scheduled Indian language.

The company has an authorised capital of Rs 6.5 crore (Rs 65 million) and a paid-up capital of Rs 5.07 crore (Rs 50.7 million).

Viacom18 Media has received licences for three channels including Bandhan, Colors Infinity HD and Colors Infinity.

English general entertainment channel Colors Infinity and Colors Infinity HD will launch on 31 July.

The three channels have been issued licences in English, Hindi and regional languages.

True, between who is going to add and watch these many channels. I believe we will be able to concentrate only on 50 channels max in all genres.
