In order to cut down bulky paperwork, the government has allowed Aadhaar card and fingerprint at the point of sale for applying, validating and activating prepaid and postpaid mobile connections. Under e-KYC guidelines issued on Tuesday, a customer through his/her Aadhaar number and biometrics will online authorise UIDAI to provide demographic details such as name, address, date of birth and gender along with the digitallysigned photograph to the telco.

The move is intended to cut down time for SIM activation as KYC is verified instantly. "In e-KYC, digitally-signed electronic KYC data provided by UIDAI is machine readable making it possible for licensees to directly store it as customer record in their database for the purpose of issuing a mobile connection," a department of telecom notification said.

Now, apply for mobile connections with Aadhaar card

Basically this thing is being launched for quick activation process of Reliance Jio sim cards so that their sale count won't hit due to existing lethargic processes.

As i told you guys this time my House Rent Agreement was done at premises only because of this Aadhar E-KYC feature. Otherwise i have to go to Registrar office and waste 4-5 hours for the same.

How will this be implemented? Because existing fingerprint sensors in the mobile phones can't be used for aadhar authentication. For aadhar based authentication you need certification from STQC. So a seperate device must be used wherein an electronic form is filled up and digitally signed using your biometrics. I will see it get implemented at brand store only for now Ofcourse.

If you realise while Tele verification for a new connection you no longer talk to a human but an IVR provided you have submitted your Voter id or pan or aadhar as proof.
