The popular but troubled Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place next year notwithstanding the suspension of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, Rajiv Shukla confirmed to CNN-IBN on Thursday.

However, Shukla did not elaborate on the format of the tournament after the suspension of the two teams but said that surely it won't be played with just six teams.

"IPL 9 will be organized in a bigger way than IPL 8. Surely ninth season cannot be played with just six - it has to be more than that. We (BCCI) are considering several proposals that have come before us and will take a final call at BCCI meet on 19th July in Mumbai," he told CNN-IBN.
