Well there r many discussions has gone and still going on about MPEG4 DVBS2 >< MPEG2 DVBS formats in Tatasky. Most of them r in favour of MPEG4 DVBS2 have more Quality pictures in SD/HD channels .
1stly i am not a Expert and writing my findings as found in C Band transmissions of HD Channels by few reputed TV Channels rated heigh in the TV Channel world.
Yes its agreed that MPEG4 is helping to get more space to add many channels in a single TP, I found few channels like "CCTV HD" is transmitting in MPEG2 DVBS QPSK formats in C Band. They have AC3 -DD audio with 16:9 resolution. The quality is world wide known, they r very much advanced in TV Technology with having world wide channels.
So y Tatasky will migrate to MPEG4 ? , only for getting more space ? There is no need to have MPEG4 for Quality as i seen in few other HD Channels in C Band.

SS of CCTV HD from C Band 4100,V,27500,3/4,QPSK>

Not exactly sir but we all know that broadcaster prefer MPEG4 because of compression technology.

We all know that mp3 files are inferior to wav files. Still to save money and space, we prefer mp3.

Same is the case with MPEG4 and MPEG2

Broadcasters prefer MPEG4 for bandwidth and cost saving but quality remains same on both compression technology.
Mp3 and wav formats are lossy formats.

Wherever in world e main moto of any business is to reduce costs without compamising on qualty n safety n to increase profits. But in this lots of things are involved. Cost of implementing mpeg4 is capital expenditure, but question is if it will recover this expenditure over a period of time in this highly competive market. If not then they would not choose to shift.
I m sure company tata would hav done this basic forecasting analysis n they would hav not got a fabourable result.
