A day after lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung appointed Delhi Police officer Mukesh Kumar Meena as the chief of the Capital's anti-corruption branch, the Delhi government on Tuesday told the senior officer that he cannot take charge as there is "no such sanctioned post".

The latest row between the Arvind Kejriwal government and the L-G comes on a day when Delhi law minister Jitender Tomar was arrested for allegedly producing a fake law degree while filing his nomination for the assembly polls.

In a letter to Meena, Delhi vigilance director and secretary wrote a letter to the newly appointed ACB chief asking him to go back to Delhi Police.

"... I am directed to inform you that there is only one post of additional commissioner of police in the ACB of the GNCTD which is presently occupied. As there is no such sanctioned post, you cannot take charge or hold a non-existent post," said SK Jain.

"I am, therefore, directed to ask you to revert to the Delhi Police," wrote Jain.

On Monday, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia had alleged a conspiracy and questioned credentials of Meena, who took over his new assignment late in the night. The ACB reports to Sisodia, who is also the vigilance minister. The Delhi Police also transferred seven of its inspectors to the ACB, two months after the request was sent to them.
