Out of favour England batsman, Kevin Pietersen has signed a two-year deal with Melbourne Stars to play in the Big Bash League (BBL). Pietersen said he was excited to play for the Stars team, who have made three semi-final appearances in the glitzy Australian T20 League.

Pietersen has replaced Lasith Malinga as the second international player in the team, after the pace bowler was not given the nod by his board to take part in the BBL due to the Sri Lanka team's preparations for the upcoming World Cup.

"I'm very excited about joining the Melbourne Stars and look forward to playing with some of Australias best T20 cricketers. Joining the Melbourne Stars was an easy choice for me when you look at the players we have and the amazing off-field support staff, and don't forget our home ground, the MCG," Pietersen said.

The 34-year-old batsman was unceremoniously axed from the England side after their Ashes whitewash Down Under. He later captained Delhi Daredevils in the 2014 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is set to join St Lucia Zouks for the ongoing edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
