The Maharashtra state government is all set to launch a set of TV channels to exclusively cover the proceedings of the state assembly. Earlier, the proceedings were aired on the local Doordarshan channels. The new channels will be on the lines of Lok Sabha TV and Rajya Sabha TV and will cover the proceedings of the Vidhan Sabha and Vidhan Parishad live. As per a report in the Indian Express, plans are under way to launch Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha TV and Vidhan Parishad TV in 2016, starting with a live broadcast of next year’s budget speech. All states are expected to launch a local channel for Assembly Proceedings.
So in total 28 local channels need to be launched.

But every state local channel will be restricted to that state, and Digital Cable will carry it. DTH cannot as its local. Or if Govt wants it can be made available Pan Country and then DTH can carry.

Never saw how Vidhan Sabha looks like.....proceedings were shown on DD channel only after BJP came to power....
100 cr is huge & is wastage as they have DD channel to show proceedings.....also I think DD Sahyadri showing daily reports on proceedings....

Good that they are planning to show real time political fights and that too in regional language.

Let's see if they meet the deadline.

The project is expected to cost Rs 100 crore (Rs 1 billion). Maharashtra will, thus, become the first state in India to have television channels that will telecast proceedings of its bicameral legislature.

Space for a small studio has been identified within the secretariat complex and non-session programming is expected to be first launched with a couple of hours’ content daily, the daily reported.

While cameras and other equipment for the current live telecast of proceedings on Doordarshan are rented, equipment for the channel would be purchased shortly.

Principal Secretary (State Legislature) Anant Kalse told the daily that the channels would be uplinked from the secretariat building.

The Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited, a Government of India enterprise, is providing consultancy to the state secretariat on purchase of spectrum, licensing, establishment of the satellite uplink systems and content creation.
