After days of negotiation between the Tamil Nadu government and the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC) and other film associations, movie ticket rates have been revised for all theatres across the state. The Edappadi Palaniswami-led state government has also agreed to decrease the local body entertainment tax on Tamil films to 8 percent from the earlier 10 percent. With this, the strike imposed by TFPC on new releases stands withd/rawn, allowing for the smooth release of Vijay’s Deepavali release Mersal.

Expect to shell out Rs 222 for other language films at a multiplex in Tamil Nadu.
TFPC had decided not to release any new Tamil film from 6 October onward, protesting the imposition of 10 percent local body entertainment tax, over and above GST. Among the films stalled were Dulquer Salmaan’s Solo and Dhansika’s Vizhithiru.

Who are not tax evaders ?
The official further said, “What we found during the raid was all of them did pay tax but there was a partial evasion. They were not paying the full amount.”

According to the taxmen the financiers and producers have evaded this tax amount for last six years, the actresses for two years and actor Vijay for five years.
