While the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is scrapping security clearance requirement for multi-system operators (MSOs), the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has said that this is a prerequisite for obtaining a licence to run television channels. The MIB has not permitted any private satellite TV channel without security clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Minister of State for I&B Col Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said in Rajya Sabha. He reiterated that security clearance is a prerequisite for grant of permission to run TV channels. In cases where security clearance is denied or withdrawn, action is taken to cancel permission, he added.
