As the deadline for signing deals with Star India for its channels on reference interconnect offer (RIO) ended on 10 November, MSOs are preparing various options to deal with the altered business plans.

While the network is providing all its channels only on RIO, MSOs are finding out different ways to package the channels. India’s leading MSO Hathway is currently creating new packages that it will roll out soon. Says a source, “We will be redefining our packs and giving revised rates soon. Marketing on the same will commence as well. It will be something new for the trade.”

While the base pack could include the popular channels from its bouquet, the regional channels will only be on a-la-carte. English, sports and others will be categorised in different packs. The channel had initially disconnected signals in October, but now the channels are switched on again.

This is the time for MSOs to completely end the dominance of STAR INDIA Network. World Cup is approaching in 3 Months and they have to signs a commercial deal. Such rifts will affect their business too so time has come to completely take strong steps against so called number 1.

Last Sat, broadcast msg flashed on my TV that Star channels will go a-la-carte. & since yesterday many channels started vanishing.

If some one wants all those Star channels then he will have to fork out Rs 458 extra as mentioned on InDigital Cable website.

But one thing is sure, now Star will come to know its true value. It is said the almost 60% homes have cable.
All these people would not subscribe to all Star channels & it might affect TRP ratings.

Till now Star has retained numero uno position in GEC & able to manage to hold cricket rights
So interesting to see the the effect of this venture in future.

Last week there was an article published in this regard. May be it will shed some light on this.

I am not getting affected by this as I don't watch these channels much & also I think it is not going to affect HD channels.
