Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Jio Infocomm has filed 54 patents in the last one year according to the annual report of petrochemical to telecom owned business house Reliance Industries (RIL).
The report also said that with the launch of its LYF brand of devices by its retail firm -Reliance Retail and several roll outs by other leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), it is expected that almost all the smartphones sold in the coming months will be VoLTE enabled.
The telecom operator has been in the news for keeping its VoLTE feature phone in the wings and this is expected to be the next game changer for the company. This is crucial because it is feature phones with their low price points that will help the telco get subscribers who cannot afford a smartphone.
The report stated that the operator unlike its competitors had a simplified tariff structure with less than 20 plans as against the 22,000+ tariff plans prevailing in the country today. ‘The plans are consistent across India, rather than circle specific plans and are designed to fit every budget’, it said. In all the tariff plans, voice services (Local calls, STD and National Roaming) will be offered free of cost to all its subscribers said RIL in its report.
The firm after a flying start last September with consecutive free promotional offers that saw the telco notch up more than 100 million users within 170 days, has seen its subscriber addition dip in the last few months. The Ambani owned firm’s launch has led to price wars in a sector reeling under a debt of Rs4.6 lakh crore and forced the top players Vodafone India and Idea Cellular announcing their merger.
