Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have to appear in a Delhi court, as early as tomorrow, to face allegations that they illegally acquired property worth crores belonging to the National Herald newspaper.

The Delhi High Court today dismissed the petition of the two top Congress leaders asking that a lower court summons to them be cancelled.

"We will move the Supreme Court tomorrow morning. We believe we have an unassailable case," said Congress' Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who appeared for the Gandhis.

The Congress legal team is working to stop the court appearance, which, leaders fear, will blunt the party's attack on the opposition in the middle of the Parliament session.

In a major setback for Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi, the Delhi high court on Monday rejected their petitions in the National Herald case, effectively asking them to appear before the trial court.

Upholding the summons issued to the top Congress brass by the trial court, the high court dismissed the petitions filed by the top Congress brass, which has now decided to move a division bench of the court challenging the order.

"If Rahul and Sonia decided to move the Supreme Court, I am prepared for that," BJP leader and the main complainant in the case, Subramanian Swamy, told reporters in New Delhi.

Political Vendetta: Congress cries
Parliament failed to transact any business on Tuesday as Congress members guided by a combative Sonia Gandhi repeatedly disrupted both Houses alleging “vendetta politics”, in an apparent reference to the National Herald case.

Congress members were in the Well all the time, shouting slogans against the government, even as the Chair in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha kept asking them to spell out the reason for their protest which they did not do explicitly.

The government said it felt that the Congress was creating uproar over the National Herald case in which a court has summoned Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and insisted that it could not dragged into a legal battle.

Both the Houses were repeatedly adjourned before the final adjournment minutes past 3 pm as the Congress members were unrelenting on their protest.

No sooner had both the Houses assembled for the day at 11 am, Congress members stormed the Well, shouting slogans against the government. In Lok Sabha, Trinamool Congress joined Congress in the protest against “political vendetta”.
