The publisher of daily paper Madhyamam is readying itself for the launch of a new Malayalam television channel, Mediaone TV, for the Indian state of Kerala in August 2012.
The Calicut headquartered channel will comprise entertainment, as well as news and current affairs shows, which will be fed from bureaux in New Delhi, Dubai, Riyadh, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Malappuram, according to Exchange4Media.
The channel, run by chief executive Dr Abdussalam Ahmad, will reportedly target women and students, with a strong emphasis on human rights. Minority, tribal and marginalised people will all be given special attention, Shakkir Jameel, manager, PR and legal, for Mediaone TV told the publication.
As for the future, Madhyamam Broadcasting Limited reportedly plans to expand into other Indian states with Mediaone TV, plus Urdu and English channels, and one targeted at the Indian audience living in the Middle East.
