MUMBAI: The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting ( MIB) has issued advisories to four news channels for airing programmes on the hanging of 1993 bomb blast accused Yakub Memon, as per information provided by Minister of State in the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. NDTV India and NDTV 24×7 were issued advisories on 1 June while Aaj Tak and ABP News were issued advisories on 7 June. NDTV India, Aaj Tak, and ABP News were issued advisories for telecasting programmes on the hanging of Yakub Memon. NDTV 24×7, on the other hand, was issued an advisory for its show ‘The Riddle of Yakub Memon’ on Truth vs Hype hosted by Srinivasan Jain. Altogether, the MIB has issued advisories to 10 TV channels in 2016 until June. Oscar Movies was issued an advisory for airing an ‘A’-certified film on 6 June. In May, five channels, namely Care World TV, FTV, CVR English and Sathiyam TV, were issued advisories for alleged content violation. There have been 75 cases of alleged content violation by different broadcasters from 2013 until June 2016. In 2013, the ministry had issued orders and advisories to 28 TV channels. That number dropped to 19 in the year after. In 2015, the MIB issued advisories and orders to 18 TV channels.
