The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) has given potential broadcasters a deadline of 48 hours starting Thursday to bid for the telecast rights of the two Twenty20 Internationals against West Indies in the United States of America on August 27 and 28. The Board has invited bids at a base price of Rs 11 crore per match.
The two matches, to be played in Florida, will for the first time see Indian cricket set foot in the Americas and has been slotted for a start of 7.30pm keeping the Indian prime time television viewership in mind. It is for this reason that a base price of just Rs. 11 crore per match seems surprising.
For the record, Star TV, the Indian cricket telecast rights holder, pays the board close to Rs 43 crore per match - regardless of the format - which is potentially a 75 percent drop
