No plans to launch a separate DD channel for documentaries: Jaitley

The Government today said that Prasar Bharati has no plans to launch an exclusive Doordarshan (DD) channel for documentaries.

It may be noted that earlier, the Films Division and the Indian Documentary Producers Association (IDPA), in separate proposals, had urged the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to launch a separate documentary channel.

However, DD is soon launching a 24x7 channel exclusively for farmers and rural population of India, DD Kisan, which will be an educational-cum-entertainment channel encompassing all facets of life of a farmer.

Tats the problem with Govt. they don't launch such channels and concentrate on craps. They should know that Indians are unaware from India and Documentary channel needed to know more about it.

that's why DD india is meant for..shows all the cultural heritages and shows of india and DD bharati too.

The documentaries that DD shows r better if u want to sleep. They have such bad production quality and worse presentation , also it looks to be taped with VHS.

I watch maximum documentaries and big big fan of BBC in this matter. Their docs r so so so awesome ranging from wildlife to travel to investigation etc. I watch them mostly on youtube as hardly few of them are shown on discovery or animal planet. BBC is also a public broadcaster and DD is too but see the difference, DD will remain like that and i have no hopes from them. See the wastage they run on their channels, complete waste

DD is running by Govt. and BBC is a independent body they're free to arrange their budget but its not the case with DD since Govt. using it as a tool. I think we should give credit to Hamid Ansari who atleast give a push in Rajya Shabha TV even though it is not a special channel but better on its limited effort.
