Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has directed all regional general managers (RGM) to exhibit zero tolerance on non-compliance of its laws by television channels, FM radios and cable television operators.
In its 5th Regional General Managers Conference, held at Lahore on Tuesday, PEMRA resolved to expedite efforts to curb the menaces of illegal Indian DTH, illegal TV channels, obscenity and vulgarity from media as well as illegal practices by the cable TV operators.
PEMRA’s regional general managers briefed the participants on revenue progress and expenses for the fiscal year 2015-16, status of digitalisation of existing cable TV operators and enforcement measures being carried to curb violations of PEMRA laws.
PEMRA Acting Chairman and Executive Member Kamal Udin Tipu expressed serious concern on non-compliance to PEMRA laws and authority directives by TV channels, FM radios and cable TV operators. He directed all RGMs to exhibit zero tolerance against the violations.
He also pledged to expedite DTH licensing in larger national interest as the introduction of indigenous Pakistani DTH is the only way to defeat illegal proliferation of Indian DTH, illegal channels and piracy. He said that all efforts would be made to materialise this endeavour which would not only open flood gates of investment and employment in Pakistan but would also help in developing and expanding local media industry and performing arts.
