The SPI Group currently runs a cinema exhibition, distribution and production business but are known for their portfolio of some of the most iconic cinema destinations across South India. What makes SPI Cinemas such a prized catch despite a small portfolio of just 40 odd screens that are largely concentrated in just 1 city - Chennai. For one, it is amongst the most profitable operators today with one of the highest average occupancy - over 65% -- anywhere in the country. It draws over 3 million customers a year. They are already present in Hyderabad and Bangalore (5 properties). To get into Chennai they are planning this acquisition

There is one more Multiplex Carnival cinemas who are on buying spree, recently they bought BIG Cinemas & some multiplex owned by Network 18

So, consolidation of Multiplexes is happening in India now. Can't figure out if it will be good or bad for us in future.

PVR is already present in Chennai but the screens are meagre compared to SPI cinemas, When it comes to multiplex, Sathyam is preferred in and around chennai and my most fav one too.i prefer SPI rather than PVR which got technically challenged people.
