In a setback to the Mumbai cricket team, batsman Sarfaraz Khan on Tuesday announced his decision to play for Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming season of the Ranji Trophy. Sarfaraz, who plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is the latest to leave the Mumbai team after Wasim Jaffer. Jaffer decided to try his luck with Vidarbha after representing Mumbai for 19 years.

Mumbai will be also without Hiken Shah after he was suspened by the BCCI due to his suspicious approach towards a team-mate in the recent IPL.

"He and his father came this evening to get the NOC (No objection certificate) from me. I tried to persuade Sarfaraz to stay on, but his father (Naushad) argued that his son was 'promised' that he would get to play for the UP team," Mumbai Cricket association (MCA) Joint Secretary PV Shetty was quoted as saying to The Times of India.
