Reliance Communications on Friday moved the telecoms tribunal against the government's auction rules that mandate a CDMA player to bid for only one slot of 1.25 MHz of spectrum, as against GSM players who can bid for two such lots.

The Telecom Disputes Settlement Appellate Tribunal headed by chairman Justice S B Sinha issued notice to the telecom department (DoT) for a hearing on Monday on the plea alleging arbitration and discrimination.

RCom is the second telco after Vodafone to move the tribunal against DoT's rules outlined for the auction slated scheduled to take place by August 31, as per the Supreme Court's order.

RCom's plea said that DoT's circular of July 3 allows GSM operators to bid for two blocks of 1.25 Mhz in the proposed auction while CDMA players can bid for one slot. This move was creating a non-level playing field, the telco said.
