Dance bars will be back in business soon in Maharashtra following the Supreme Court's stay on a law banning dance performances in bars, hotels and restaurants in the state.

However, the court did give power to licensing authorities to regulate indecent dance performances. It said that the state must ensure that the dignity of women artists is protected.

Maharashtra's law - that banned dance performances -- was very similar to a previous law that was declared unconstitutional by the apex court, said a bench of Justice Dipak Misra and Prafulla C Pant.

The apex court had, in 2009, struck down a similar law saying that banning dance performances was unconstitutional. After that, the state government passed another law in 2014 with similar provisions.

What an idiotic decision by Court. On many occasions they give lecture on women empowerment. This is how we are going to empower women of our country by legalizing bar dance and brothels.

But red street in Mumbai is legal is it not , then why not dance bars? Mumbai is famous for dance bars.

Also it works as a source of income for loads of women esp women from rural areas, since respective state government has found various means to tap job market in the respective states

If we are interested in seeing Indian Women as bar dancers and sex worker. Then we are no less than Bangladesh or Thailand and should no more talk about women rights and empowerment
