Shemaroo Entertainment tied up with direct to home (DTH) platform Airtel Digital TV to launch a movie premiere service called Miniplex.

Miniplex will premiere one movie every Friday for the first time on Indian television. In addition, the service, which is an ad free subscription based service will also showcase other recent movies.

In addition to DTH, Shemaroo also plans to launch Miniplex across various other platforms, like cable and online in a phased manner in the future.

Miniplex is a cross platform subscription-based movie premiere service that will provide the audiences an opportunity to view premiere and also premium movie content for a subscription fee of Rs 60 per month or Rs 3 daily. The Miniplex service will be available on channel number 162 on Airtel Digital TV.

Ok. We may expect similar tieup of Shemaroo with Tata SKy too as they too are planning to laucnh VOD with same name.

Content aggregator and distributor Shemaroo Entertainment has launched a multi-platform, ad-free, movie subscription service called Miniplex that will premiere a new movie every Friday.

Shemaroo has signed a revenue share deal to launch the service on direct-to-home (DTH) platform Airtel Digital TV.

The service will be available on channel number 162 for a subscription fee of Rs 60 per month. It will eventually launch on other DTH platforms as well cable TV and digital platforms in a phased manner.

The service will focus on two categories—movie premieres and other recent movies.

The movie premieres will have movies that have released in theatres but are not picked up by broadcasters.

The acquisition cost of these movies is not high, which makes it a viable proposition. The satellite rights of many movies remain unsold every year, creating a huge inventory of unsold films.

It is these movies that Shemaroo will aggregate and distribute on its Miniplex platform.

Some of the movies to be premiered on the platform include ‘Ankhon Dekhi’, ‘John Day’, ‘Badlapur Boys’, ‘Zed Plus’, and ‘Uvaas’.

The premiered movies will be repeated through the day as well as on Sundays, with one repeat telecast every day of the week.
