Jayawardene has a stupendous record at the SSC, scoring 2698 runs at a fine average of 77.08. In 2006, he stroked a sublime 374 against the visiting South Africans, the highest individual score by a Sri Lankan batsman, going past Sanath Jayasuriya's 340 against the Indians in 1997. During the course of the innings, he added a world record stand of 624 runs with Kumar Sangakkara. He has also scored 10 hundreds at the venue, the most by any batsman at the ground.
