Sun TV Network’s fiscal first quarter performance has been impacted by a softness in ad revenue growth and losses from its IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. Consolidated net profit grew just by 0.7 per cent from year ago to Rs 165.64 crore (Rs 1.65 billion) in the quarter ended 30 June 2014. Total income from operations rose 5.27 per cent to Rs 633.58 crore (Rs 6.33 billion), from Rs 601.85 crore (Rs 6.01 billion) a year ago. The company said its ad revenues increased marginally to Rs 280.42 crore (Rs 2.80 billion) and PAT (excluding its Indian Premier League franchise) for the quarter was up 5 per cent to Rs 194.70 crore (Rs 1.94 billion). Growth in ad revenue remained muted as advertisers migrated to news channels on account of the general election, added the company. Weak ad growth was despite higher inventory utilisation as the company was not following 10+2 ad cap.
