NP Singh is opening a new frontier of business for Sony Pictures Networks in India. Known as a broadcaster of television channels and for owning an over-the-top (OTT) platform, the Indian entity will now step into the content business to churn out fiction shows. As the chief executive of Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), Singh realises that there is a captive requirement of fiction content for the company’s Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs). Occupying that space on its own will give the new TV content arm enough scale. While controlling the creativity of the shows in-house, there could be a saving on programming costs for the TV channels.
