TataSky the leading DTH operator in India has once again proven that it is the industry leader and path definer through the launch of its pioneer channels and services. The operator which currently has 49 HD channels and 10 interactive services has launched two exclusive Star sports add on service HD channels which are currently not available on any other DTH or Cable platform.
These channels are not aimed to be 24 hour broadcasting channels but rather will act as a supplement to the existing 4 Star sports channels already available in both SD and HD versions. Star sports says that sometimes it is not possible to telecast a match on any of the regular 4 channels as the timings clash with other scheduled events, in such a situation these add on service channels will be used for telecasting those matches.
TataSky has added these channels on location numbers 423 and 424 and currently they are being used to telecast the Barclays Premier league matches. TataSky also has plans of increasing the number of Active services from 10 to 16 by March next year. Currently TataSky is in the process of converting from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 platform and may well be able to complete the process by Diwali when its lease with INSAT-4A expires and it will migrate all channels and services to GSAT 10.
